I recently took a trip to New York with DJ Stephanie, and after a short wait in line, we finally stepped into National Sawdust. Having visited the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, I was excited to support some of the amazing music events happening on the East Coast as well.
The moment I walked in, I loved how intimate the venue felt. I rushed to the first row and grabbed a center seat so I could get a great view and an even better listen. Before the event, I had reached out to Candace McDuffie (check her out!) to see if she could connect me with the moderator shoutout to you! And a huge shoutout to Janae (below), who led such a heartfelt conversation that she moved the whole audience to tears as she gave Ciara her flowers.
DJ Jashay kept the energy high, spinning Ciaraโs bangers back-to-back. At one point, a girl next to me knew every single word to a track I didnโt even realize Ciara had but it was clearly her jam!
Then a deep voice echoed through the room, and suddenly everyone was buzzing โRussell Wilsonโ was in the back. The crowd got excited, but honestly, I think I was the most excited one there. I adore Ciara and Mr. Wilson and I low-key wanted him to know what a huge New England Patriots fan I amโฆ unless he plans to sign me to his label (wink wink)!
But back to Ciara. I had no idea what was coming, but the trip ended up being so worth it. I noticed a bedazzled microphone in the background, but still didnโt expect what happened next. After the conversation, Ciara took a quick break and then came back ready to perform. The MIC WAS ON! She sat on a stool center stage and blessed us with some of her hits.
